Adapting 101

Hello all.
I recognize that its been more than a week, sorry about that. I'll refrain from too many details about my adventures thus far...
The communicative arts major consists of 2 classes each morning that are 2 hours each, and rotate from week to week. Last week I had a class about words and their definitions, in which we explored connotation of words and the politics in defining them. The other began with a question: "what matters?" Basically, everything I've been programmed to think and believe was defenestrated so that we could explore how society is manipulated and how we, as "future leaders," would fix it. I saw "V for Vendetta" for the first time, and was encouraged to consider the dynamics of justice and injustice through the plot. Could we be under similar governmental manipulation in a more surreptitious fashion? Is it possible to manipulate people for the better, since many have no will to think for themselves?

Additionally, i take 2 and a half hours of dance class each day, which begins with a ballet class geared toward honing technique. But while Mrs. Rodgers has a particular aptitude for teaching ballet, she's also the creative type, and on most days she'll give us a theme or idea for a dance and let us choreograph amongst ourselves. honestly, we've been surprised by the clever and aesthetic products of our ruminations together. We're rather a motley crowd, in a good way.

But honestly, social aspects have been as much of a jolt as anything else. As much as i was expecting the cliquey and attention craving type people to be the minority here, they seem to make up the majority. I've met plenty of neat people, really- but its easy to feel alienated by the blatant difference in beliefs. There is so much that I haven't yet been desensitized too, and I'm praying it will stay that way. But as far as i can see, God is as much involved in my GHP adventures as I am, and I'll definitely, definitely be okay.

I do miss all of you! And if it strikes your fancy then do send me a letter, i fancy letters a great deal. [ Valdosta State University, 1204 North Patterson St. Valdosta, GA 31698]

until next time,
katy :)
(ps: THERE ARE A MILLION KATIE'S HERE.)
